Sorry to say the conditions are almost as bad as they can get. ALL of that foot of snow received Christmas Day, one week ago, is gone. And the dustings of the past couple of days have not made any improvement, either. At least none of it remains on the trails (some still lurking in the trees at upper elevations, though on little or no base).

The trails which have had snowmaking on them (i.e. the only ones marked "open" on the official report) at least have a scratchy "machine-groomed, frozen-granular" base on them.

The Tram is closed due to lack of snow-covered routes back to it, and they weren't making snow yet on the Tram Cutback today, so I don't see how they'll get it open by this weekend.

On the Peabody slopes, Lower Cannon was in decent shape (though above the Eagle Cliff lift, grooming was a little chunky), Lower Ravine was good, Gremlin looked OK (though I didn't ski it), and CanCat has been working on the Toss Up terrain park (which I also bypassed).I think TimeZone was closed; Parkway, Turnpike, and RedBall were closed.

Of the Front Five, only Garys and Rocket are open. There was an inch or two of "dust on crust" hiding in the troughs of the bumps along the skier's right edge of Garys and Rocket, otherwise decent machine groomed surface in the middle of both.

Zoomer, Paulies, and Avalanche were closed; the remaining cover is so thin, that even I wouldn't try to ski them. It will take another foot+ of natural, or the snowmakers turning their attention to these trails, to open them again.

The middle mountain is also limited to two routes down: Middle Cannon, and the Links to Middle Ravine. Middle Cannon was the best bet today, had decent cover, decent grooming, and some of that dusting of new snow was in evidence. Bypass & Extension, and Lower Hardscrabble were closed

Of the summit trails, only Upper Cannon and Profile were open. Upper Cannon was the best bet, with a little fresh snow blown in on the edges early A.M., but pretty much skied off by noon. The cover is thin, and the groomers scalped it in two places, tilling up a nice mix of snow and gravel on a couple corners.

Profile was in rough shape; groomers had done a mediocre job on the skier's left and middle; virtually unskiable thin cover under the quad side; the prevailing wind that always seems to come straight up Profile was stripping off any loose snow.

Vista Way, Tram Way, Upper Ravine, and Taft Slalom were all closed. The Captain was blowing snow on Upper Ravine; they had previously tried to make some on this trail, so they may be able to open it by Saturday or Sunday. It would be nice to have a third route down from the summit.

Sometimes that North wind, when it's stripping Profile bare, will create a nice line of drifts on the edge of VistaWay or Taft. One reconnaisance run under the rope to Taft-UpperHardscrabble-MiddleHardscrabble proved that theory wrong today. There was a little dust on top of a ski-chattering rock-hard base (some of which was rock). Getting back to Lower Ravine across Turnpike almost (should have) required taking the skis off to walk.

I'm afraid the natural snow trails, including Mittersill, are toast until we get another big weathermaker. Don't let my comment about "snow lurking in the trees" mislead you; it's not worth the price of admission yet; not even worth skinning up to ski for free.

Ish... I think that the reports of Lftgly after the closure last april were showing some quite better conditions !!!!

I'm not super surprised, cause it looks really bad in New England actually... except may be at Jay Peak... not sure.

Here, there is a guy who went to Mt Shefford today and there was a big crust and it was really tough to ski. Still a good depth, though, but almost unskiable anyway.

At least, the situation is enough correct in the north, cause they received some snow after the fu**** r@!n. It's special. The north really didn't get nothing while New England and the Townships were buried with snow... and now, they have more remaining snow than New England... weird thing.

i was at cannon new years day, should of brought my ice skates, the mountain was a skating rink by noon. woods are unskiable, after skiing mittersill a few weeks ago in boot top fresh, from what i could see it there was little to no snow in places. ugly.
