conditions in the Okanagan

I'm heading to Kelowna on Jan.30 and plan to ski at Big White, Silver Star and Revelstoke between Feb.2 and 6th. Do any of you weather experts have any inside information if the current warm and dry spell in B.C. is going to end anytime soon? Looks like Central B.C. is in need of a real dump.

I'm flying to Kelowna myself Jan. 29, skiing Revelstoke Feb. 4-6 and a couple of the Kelowna areas Feb. 7-8. Nothing much is expected until next Tuesday, and beyond that forecasts tend to be unreliable.

I will be heading out to Big White Feb 16-21 and will be watching for your reports with great interest. I usually take the family to Fernie for a week in late March so I don't really know what to expect in BW. Anybody have any experience re: crowd sizes over the Presidents Week holiday?

I would be surprised if Big White has a high proportion of U.S. visitors. Big White also has a high capacity lift system, so I'd be even more surprised at any crowd issues as long as the whole mountain is open.

I skied at Big White on Feb.3 and again on Feb.6. this was my first time here and as I was skiing solo without the benefit of any local insider knowledge it took me most of the two days to cover the mountain. On Feb.1 Big White reported 15cm of fresh snow but by the time I got there on Feb.2nd it had been pretty much pushed around. The coverage was better then I was expected with only a few rocks and logs exposed. There must have been a bit of ice before the fresh snow because I kept hitting icy patches between the fesh snow which bhad been pushed into small moguls. The snow conditions on the groomed runs was much more consistent. Friday Feb.6th was a pretty miserable day, granular snow was being whipped around by a strong wind and visibility was pretty poor. Because of the wind the lifties were not allowing any singles on the chairs.
My overall impression was that next to Deer Valley, Big White is the most ideal family resort I have skied. The expert runs weren't the most interesting I have seen, Pegasus' Bowl and the Cliff only offer short steep sections but there enough intermidiate runs to keep most families interested for a full week. Crowds on both days were non-existent.
