couple of SLC questions

Following Tony's (and others') season-pass-be-damned advice, our little group re-booked, and we're headed for SLC instead of Heavenly. Given subsequent developments, this looks to be a very good move, so thanks to all for the advice. \:D/

BTW, our friends are flying Southwest, and had NO ticket change fees (bravo, SW! =D> ); United wasn't so generous with Sarah and myself.

Two questions for SLCers:

First, we'd like to take our friends by the venerable culinary institution, the Red Iguana  , but would like to avoid that freezing queue outside the door if possible. I noted that Red Iguana now has a couple of new locations. Do these have the same great food and atmosphere, and are they likely to have shorter lines? Or even better, have these taken some of the pressure off the original so the lines aren't so bad any more?

And second, has anyone recently skied in PC, Snowbasin, or PowMow? Any view of whether this latest series of storms is likely to make those places fun to ski again (ie, at least enough base so that you don't have to worry about bottoming out in the troughs between bumps)? Evren's reports on DV give me a little bit of hope, but the forecast in PC looks like only a foot or so-- MUCH less than the CCs -- so it's not clear that will really improve things greatly. We are basing near the CCs, and conditions will certainly be great there, but would be nice to give our friends a bit more taste of the variety that SLC has to offer.

Thanks!

I am itching to head up to Snowbasin tomorrow with my two guests but for some reason they haven't opened up John Paul yet (and will not indicate a date). Without John Paul, Snowbasin is much less attractive. It's puzzling because they got the brunt of the storm these last two days, even more so than CC -- 22 inches. Usually it's Strawberry that's the last to open.

Maybe they're worried about the chutes and slopes above JP sliding ?

It's gotta be something like that but I don't see exactly where that would be a concern. Then again, I am wishful thinking.

The terrain at the top of the tram is right above the top of the JP lift.

I may well be at the Basin on Sunday, so stay tuned.

For the Red, stick with the original IMHO.

Or Red II, about 2-1/2 blocks away. Same menu, a bit more airy, open atmosphere, same crowds and lines. Both have gas or electric heaters outside. The other location, at City Creek Center, is really just a lunch time destination as it's in the food court, closes at 6pm and only open weekdays.

They will take reservations for parties of 6 or more. They only hold them for 15 minutes and your entire party must be ready to be seated.

Snowbasin seems to have opened John Paul this morning!!! LCC closed, which means BCC crowded. Snowbasin, it is!

In other news, Deer Valley tops all other resorts with an extra inch on its 28'' yesterday. Not something you see often.

This reminds me of that Gore Vidal line: "It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail." Though, I'd only wish that on the line-cutters and assorted pricks at Snowbird.
