Eldora 12-23-07 Windy

Hit the home hill for a few hours. Skiing was interesting - as it usually is at Eldora. Rather chilly - maybe upper teens; and plenty of wind. Blowing at the base at about 10-20 with higher gusts (and higher winds up top). Even though it was opening weekend for Corona chair & the backside, due to the the wind they shut the lift early (1:30pm). Best trail of the day was probably Lower Ambush to Indian Peaks. Though even for that trail some sections of only hardpacked man-made to deal with.

Natural snow trails that appeared close to being ready to open last week have mostly been well scoured by the winds. A good news/bad news situation at Eldora. Bad news is that much snowmaking will have to occur to open more things up now, though that should go faster now that the backside is open (currently blowing snow in the terrain park - or maybe into the trees near the terrain park on a day like today). Good news being that when tree areas open up there will have been plenty of snow blown in for a base.

Forecast is for more of the same on Monday, with eventual change to a pattern of storms every couple days starting on Tues (like the rest of the western US).

Too cold to take any pics today, but here is a guy wearing a literal outfit made of Fox pelts (I think) from a week ago... Always interesting at Eldora; between Boulder's wealth and nearby Nederland's aging flower children and everything in between.

I know some of those aging "flowing children" in Nederland.

My friend Mark Miller lives there...blonde, guitar-playing hippy...maybe you know him.

Heh, Nederland... we used to drive up every Friday night for football-sized calzones (sauce on the side) at Neapolitan's. Sad to hear that it closed a while ago.
:-({|=

Is the Red Lion Inn still there?

Sharon, I don't recognize the name, but could have bumped into him as I am up there and quite active at the resort due to ski team... (for sure probably know a bunch of folks who know him...)

jamesdeluxe, Red lion is still running down in Boulder Canyon. High end 'wild meats' type of menu (duck, bison, etc..). Ned is still as funky as ever generally speaking, though the high school now has a new high-tech turf field instead of mostly rocks, and you wouldn't want to miss 'Frozen Dead Guy' festival in mid-winter (think that festival started about 8-9 years ago now... has a great 'only in Nederland' type of story behind it).
