In my roles with the ski team I had met and worked with Brian Mahon on numerous occasions over the years. He was GM for probably about the last 7 or 8. Obviously as I'm skipping out on holiday race camps over there this year I've heard nothing about it so have little to contribute other than wishes for his wife & kids (late middle school aged to maybe early HS aged by now if I recall).
Articles all week in the local paper of course, but here is about yesterdays memorial service in Boulder (with a 2nd service on Monday evening, 6pm at the ski area). 15 and 12 yr old daughters now left fatherless as well as his wife husband less... All of it very senseless.
Jim Spenst was hired just over a month ago to be the Eldora GM. He spent a lot of time at Copper and was the head of mtn operations at now defunct Tamarack. He also has a son racing for the CU ski team (as well a second son in HS).
I'd also like to give a BIG thanks to Dave Hunter and Rob Linde -the #2 & #3 guys at Eldora- for doing such a great job of keeping things on track under difficult circumstances immediately following and for the rest of the season.
