Chilly, Windy, with weird weather.
Well it was supposed to be a snow day. Try ~2" early - before I even got there and then just wind with sun. In the meantime an 'undercast' developed over the front range.
Unfortunately as can be typical at Eldora 80-90% of the new snow is now in the woods somewhere. The groomers skied OK and had a very carve-able surface but in comparison to the extreme skiers left where the dense new snow actually did stick around... what a difference in surface condition. The new snow was wind blown and so very very cream like where it did stick around. Made for some tough turns at times if you were transitioning between the two snow types.
A couple more trails opened in the past week, including lower Diamondback today. I still count 7 trails that have yet to get snowmaking. The warm weather for the majority of this week sure didn't help... They are way behind in both snowmaking and natural snow. I'd guess Eldora is probably only 50% of normal snowfall for YTD. I spent most of my time on Corona lift hitting both Corona and Muleshoe (some of the best snow on the hill on the lower ~1/3). Temps were probably only in the teens with 10-20mph winds blowing making for some somewhat chilly skiing (well at least for this or last seasons anyway).
I eventually actually took a short break in the Lookout lodge before moving over to Indian Peaks and the front side for some laps before calling it a day. Despite my hatred of skiing through snowmaking I did actually ski through it on lower Diamondback. Eldora is pretty good at snowmaking actually... they were putting down some final very soft and creamy inches. So face hurt, snow under foot was superb though. My final few verts down Chute were perhaps the best new snow... All 2" essentially untracked. I headed out just before 3pm given the wind and chill.
