Eldora continues to be at least as good as any other local options having officially picked up another foot in two small storms during the past week. Though nothing for the past 3 days (supposed to snow a bit Monday). In many ways it's hard to tell since the winds have been nearly continuous since late December it seems. Today wasn't too bad with a breezy 5-10mph wind blowing on a cool day due to the persistent Mountain Wave cloud. By the time it had moved a touch and the sun had moved far enough west it was already ~2:30pm.
Eldora has opened several more trails on snowmaking since my last visit and even opened a couple of natural snow trails that would be described as 'sporting'. Super Bony would be another descriptor. But hey, it's something in our season of drought. Sort of skiable, but barely, would include Psychopath and Bryan Glade. Best of the mountain today was the newly opened Upper ambush combined with also newly opened lower Diamond Back. Super soft top surfaces at the end by the snowmakers and few skiers meant lots of great turns. Not sure how long that will last with potential winds and of course eventual scrape down to the harder snowmaking at some point on upper Ambush (technically a double diamond, but when it's smooth like today it's more like a slightly steeper than average diamond).
I count only 3 more snowmaking trails yet to blow snow on at Eldora which continues to be an intermittent process with warm temps (30's) at times and cold temps for a couple days at a time, etc... I have heard a number of the big resorts have run out of water allocations for the season already... Which doesn't bode well for them if this continues. Eldora still has at least a bit of water left although the various resevoirs look to be diminishing quickly now.
Business must be off probably across Colorado, but Eldora has apparently stopped running Indian Peaks lift mid-week as of a couple weeks ago. Skier visits on the days I've been up this year seem fairly close to normal or only a bit below normal. But then that is only an estimation and perhaps visits from hard counts are less than I think.
Cell Phone pics again....
