Groomer Heaven
Eldora is now about 50% open with all lifts running, though plenty of snowmaking left to be done. La Belle opened today for the first time... all of 3 days prior to FIS races occurring on it next week (CU event). Tough year to be a snowmaker in Colorado I guess. This also prompted the opening of Powderhorn on natural snow (needs the top of La belle to access it right now). Soft snow there, but right now it's fools gold as there are a ton of rocks and it's a good 6-12+" short of where it really needs to be to be comfortable skiing it on natural. Corona and La Belle were best snow I think; very carve-able. Lower Ambush was worst snow - very scrapey. Surprised grooming was not occurring on Cascade. Looks like plenty of snow on it.... Muleshoe looks like it needs a lot more, but at least they have started making snow on it.
It was a very warm day without a breath of wind. So snowmaking had to stop for the day. Last I saw our next storm isn't until Thursday/Friday of next week. I guesstimate about 17.5K of vert in just over 3 hours of skiing. Still waiting for any of the steeps to open as you might expect.
