What a difference having a Jr racer makes.
Jr is in the race program this year which is quite weird as I no longer coach and being a "regular" parent (I'm still on the BOD) this year it looks like I should get some good ski time.
So after getting him to his group I started skiing the 2" of new over to the back side. Probably 80+ percent of the cut trails are now open with snowmaking still getting a few more trails up to speed. So many of the trails except the real steeps are open on the backside. Alpenhorn is currently skiing the best as it holds snow better than anything else with the exception of the bottom hundred verts which is always "sporty". Today due to strong winds it had collected 4-6" so quite good.
Then at lunch I bumped into a neighbor who's kids Jr plays with all the time. He's an ex racer from the Midwest so we skied for a while (his kids are in ski school programs still). We hit about 10 runs mostly on the backside. The natural snow only trails that are open are now getting quite boney so more snow is desperately needed.
Eventually I headed to the front side about the time flight for life appeared. Never a good thing to see.
After practice Jr wanted to still ski which was a surprise given his young age, but I took it as a very good sign. He's really starting to speed up too. I counted about 24K of vert for myself. Good things all around.
