I got a chance to get up for a few hours today, arriving at the crack of 11:30a.
Eldora opened Friday and lots more terrain is already open than typical in recent years. basically 3 runs on the front side, plus one run opening today down into Indian Peaks lift. In addition nearly the entire beginner zone is open down low as well. Pretty good snow surface for the most part. A few hardpacked/scratchy spots here or there, but the only true danger zone was the rollover on the final knoll of Indian Peaks. Literal east coast style ice for 20 feet in the middle of the trail. Yikes. Otherwise the snow was pretty excellent in the IP area.
I took 6 runs on skis and then switched over to 5 runs on my snowboard. Leaving about 3p and 11.5K vertical later. While I can feel it in my legs, not to horrible since I've been bike riding and working out a bit here and there. At one point a black helicopter buzzed the place which I can only assume was the owner who owns a heli and corporate jet he likes fly. No stopping except to switch out the gear.
Good start to the season.
