Day 2: A bit blustery

Day one for the wife and junior this season. Eldora hasn't been exactly skunked, but it still has quite a bit less snow that the rest of Colorado so far this season . Too many times the wind has been from the SW or W which does not do well (if anything at all) for Eldora. Upslope is the most obvious storm type, but Eldora also does very well in a NW flow situation too. Much of Colorado has gotten at least 8-15" in recent days for example.

Anyway the couple of inches they received over the past couple of days actually skied like hero snow in the beginner areas. Couldn't ask for better learning snow. Junior was up for 4 runs on the magic carpet and then 3 runs on the Ho Hum chair right next to the carpet. His first chair lift rides ever. We worked on his pizza and french frys mostly today. He had no problems at all even from the start as to getting on or off the magic carpet. Then mom took him for a solid 30 minute plus set of loops on the shuttle bus that runs around the base area (every time he saw the bus he asked if he could ride it). During that stretch I grabbed a couple of laps on the quasi open Corona trail on the backside (sort of half the trail open - never seen them open it that way in 15 years there). By then the wind was blowing stronger and light snow was falling mixed in with the on-going snowmaking over there. I generally detest skiing in any snowmaking, but the surface was quite nice and due to the wind and snowfall, you couldn't really even tell the difference for the most part except for the noise. Temp was a steady 15F so the wind and snow made it chilly, but not freezing if dressed right.

First day on my new non-race set up. I need another day or so to dial the boots in. They're the Tecnica Cochise 130 so still plenty stiff, but the top 'buckle' isn't one so I need to play and figure out how I'm going to consistently tighten that strap to where I want it.
