A relatively quick day heading into the Holiday. Still managed 25K+ of vert. Eldora has not had quite as much as the central mtns this year due to the direction of the storms (NW is better for Eldora vs due W or SW flow). But still enough to have much more than usual open on natural snow. Runs like Challenge, Powderhorn, Psychopath, Upper Ambush, etc... As I was sliding onto Corona during one of my laps I actually had the GM slide on with me as he was going around checking things out for the day. He said that a rare for Colorado layer of 15% water content snow fell about 5 days ago and the mtn took advantage by both opening a lot of terrain but also rolling things out with cats. I suspect once some more storms come in that the base will be better than normal this year in the trees and steeps with that dense layer covering things.

I didn't hit the luck of the draw... Some of the real steeps had been open for a day or two (salto, west ridge), but had since closed once they had enough skier compaction for the moment and they are looking for solidification of the snow and the next storm before re-opening them. So I spent the day hitting trails front to back to front to back to front a couple of times. Nice day with temps just cold enough for snowmaking (final snowmaking on Corona going on while the trail was open) but warm enough to have a grilled burger for lunch outside on the deck of the main lodge.

It took me two laps to get warmed up, but then I started skiing decently, loving the soft cream snow that the snowmakers were putting down on Corona (even though I still HATE skiing through active snowmaking guns). No lines at all today which was great. Just a nice relaxed feel to the day with no pressures of any kind and the opportunity to ski at good speed without worrying about too many folks on the open trails. Took the P&S camera up:
