So much going on this past week. Today was a short but very productive one.
Temps started out frigid first thing in the AM and combined with everything else going on we showed up late where, for no apparent reason, they were still parking cars in the upper lot despite tons of cars leaving and plenty of spaces around the main lots. We had to run the hassle gamut of parkers to 'drop off at the lodge' - aka drive around to the plenty of newly empty spaces all over the beginner zone lifts. Little kids can't handle more than a few hours max and tons of spots always open up down there by 11:30 or 12p.
Anyway it was chilly air in the shade but glorious in the sunny areas. Not a cloud in the sky and really no breeze to speak of. Kind of a chamber of commerce type day. Lot more people than I've seen all season. Pretty much anything they can blow snow on has had snow blown on it. The only possible exception is lower West Ridge (west ridge is not open yet and is natural snow top half and snowmaking lower half - I have not been over tot hat chair this year so no idea if the bottom is ready and the wait is on the natural stuff up top?)
A couple of natural snow trails are open and couple of the least steep glades are open in addition to the 75%, or so of snowmaking trails. Eldora has been getting some snow on and off for the past 2 weeks like the rest of the west, but not as much volume. The wind direction has just not been very favorable recently so smallish amounts most days. Most recently 2" on Christmas night.
We skied several runs off the top and keep introducing Jr to more trails and he is picking up the speed all on his own as he gets used to the big mountain trails. So I actually get to make some turns for myself at times instead of lead him or talk him through a particular section. I even skied upper Ambush which drops down into a blue trail. So Jr finally got to see me ski 'real turns' and normal pace.
Probably add in a different resort next week for Jr's first ever time somewhere else in Colo.
