At some point I ought to write up a long one to describe Eldora to everyone as I suspect most users/readers of these forums have no idea where let alone what Eldora looks like, skis like, etc... Unfortunately, that will not be this post as I only have a few minutes.
Did the half day routine (afternoon) due to other obligations. Basically 3 1/2 trails open (plus a couple beginner trails). First to open areas have criss-crossing trails so can end up with a similar 'double count' as the Eastern US in official snow reports in early season. Despite the new snow ,things were a bit scrapey in several areas due to Eldora's famous winds. Which were moderate Sunday but still apparently enough to help scour a couple areas.
Trail of the day was clearly Jolly Jug/Sunset with the best surface snow condition. Indian Peaks lift open with one run, but not great snow. Natural on un-open terrain looked about 18" of settled base and people were poaching many additional front side trails. I would guess one more decent storm and things will begin to really open up on the front side. Snowmaking was blasting trails toward Corona bowl area so that should open in a week or so (takes a ton of snowmaking to get that chair open). Fairly cold day and a bit breezy, but good enough for getting out for a few hours and getting some turns in. At Eldora, once the natural builds up to the same level/depth as the snowmaking trails the scrapey parts should begin to disappear.
