Warm day transitioning snow from winter to spring.
Eldora had several inches of new snow during the late week and surprisingly when I arrived at noon the snow was still frequently winter like in shady areas despite temps in the mid 40s. At this time of year the breezes of Eldora actaully kept temps toward reasonable instead of insanely warm. By the time I left at 3pm things were transitioning to spring on all but the most northerly faces.
After several laps in the beginner areas I took my son up the main lift for the first time ever. It was a long run down, but he improved the whole way learning that if you try to super snowplow the entirety of a long blue you get tired. About half way down he finally listened to my advice and followed me doing zig zag turns across the hill so he could rest his legs somewhat between turns.
We then endured a 20 minute drive through Nederland before hitting the canyon due to the largest crowds I've seen at the Frozen Dead Guy Days festival. People parked everywhere and even quite a distance from the heart of town. I guess that qualifies as the one weekend per year with traffic issues at Eldora (vs the I70 mess nearly every weekend).
