A good day on the hill; mostly hitting secret stashes. Eldora got 9 or so inches on Friday and 2 days later the general rules of snow surface were the following: firm underneath but enough fluff for decent skiing on groomed trails, soft as ever on north facing steeps, and still some nice powder to be had in the secret stashes.
My day started off with a couple of high speed groomers on the front side with my wife. We then moved over to Indian Peaks area for a couple runs with me hitting skiers right of Placer glade with some freshies on the early section before hitting the pitch - which is good enough now to not hit rocks on that side. After a long day Saturday, my wife was tired and headed back to the base for some food and skiing on her own.
That was my cue for hitting some secret spots on the mtn for the next two hours. Well, not exactly only I know them, but not very many do. So, even two days after the most recent storm, several favorite in-the-woods stashes remained.
By about 2pm, the clouds and fog were rolling in (from the front range side, not from the divide side), a cold breeze from the east was blowing, and it started to snow. Forecasters are calling for a fairly decent sized storm with upslope components, even for the front range (4-8" for Boulder).
So another mid-winter like day on the mtn. I hope this keeps up for a couple more weeks.
