We met up with a couple of friends of my wife's. I figure it's important to keep the better half happy since I duck into the trees and generally get my way most of the ski days. That said, I wasn't too great a host and I ducked into the trees a lot to get knee deep powder \:D/ . Eldora got some of the deepest, lightest pow of the year out of the most recent system (18"+) O:) . Cool winter day with little wind and some light, in-and-out light snow starting by mid-day. Everyone legs were toast (man, tight trees can work you out good) by ~3pm and we packed it in. We'll have to see what the helmet cam came up with later in the week. Almost typical crowd for mid-winter, and much bigger than normal for April at Eldora - good for them, maybe a bit added to their bottom line in a tough season.

Nice! Wasn't it like 2 weeks ago when everyone was ripping on Colorado for not having any snow? What a difference a couple weeks make.

Well Marc_C did say he'd try to blow some snow over this way - or was it SKidog? I forget.

Utah definitely gets way more deep powder days, but for 95%+ of skiers, they are looking for soft groomers and maybe just a few inches of snow anyway. One reason why Colo gets so many skier visits - lots of days with a few inches to a foot to keep everything fresher for the vast majority of skiers that that is ideal for.

Eldora is just under 200" for the season now, with Copper just over 300". It was hard to tell in my pics when the opposing ridges from Eldora get wind blasted so bad it never has more than a few inches of snow - and then you get a 2 week warm spell.

On average Colorado is relatively strong on snowfall at this time of year, particularly on the Continental Divide. This year the Northern and Central group has had a lot of snow since mid-March. Much less at the Southern and Western areas, though those areas did much better than normal earlier and most of them are still above average for the season as a whole.

Not sure which thread it was discussing the snowfall at Eldora, probably the one with brown ground pics opposite the ski hill from Eldora a couple weeks ago...

I just looked at my records and show 273" last season for Eldora vs 196" so far this season. I'd call this season very close to average for Eldora.

Finally had time to go through the Helmet cam footage from this day. Mostly some tight trees shots. Nothing too exciting, but the trees sure are loaded up with snow!
