Kid stoke with a little dust on crust up top.
The kiddo's first day at Eldora, though he had 2 days over Christmas back east. Though were rough enough that I figured he need a few more months before trying again. We did the 'big' magic carpet 4 times with the first run a long tough go before he finally started to figure it out. I skied backward while he held onto my poles which I had sideways. Eldora's beginner slope is actually quite steep compared to many never ever pitches. Definitely beginner, but not the nearly literal flat that is ideal for never-ever's. By the 3rd & 4th runs on the maybe 40 vertical feet he went the whole way down in one long straight even keeping his ski tips together for the most part. I was encouraged enough that he is both physically and mentally ready that now I need to consider my options for gear, helping aids and passes or etc... for next year. Sure I could try to go more with him this year, but I don't have season long gear for him and despite the not too expensive rental prices it's still too much for the 60 minute sessions he's going to get on the hill for a while.
Once he was done I headed up the main mountain for a little over an hour for a few runs while my wife took the little guy. Eldora had had maybe 2 very dense wind blown inches on top of refrozen. Not the best conditions and while it was pleasant temps, only the east facing couple of trails had softened up by the time we left at ~$1:45. Some of the groomers (skiers left of course from wind deposition) skied OK, bumps were no fun as it was dense wind filled troughs to frozen bump tops. Most likely my last day this year but you never know. Expected big storm early this week could return conditions to something soft and good.
