They are getting pretty regular dumps, no? If anyone cares to comment on how Alta/Snowbird/Solitude are looking, would love to know.

Alson, anyone know if the Holiday Inn Express at Midvale is a dump? It's so cheap I'm scared....

Just got back from a trip out there looking for a house. Now, I'm speaking strictly on what I'm hearing second-hand from a buddy at dinner on Monday night, and news reports -- I couldn't bring my skis and distract myself from house-hunting. However...

It's been puking like a college freshman at a frat party out there. Alta is reporting a 145-inch base, and both Alta and Snowbird have surpassed the 300-inch season total already. Alta was in full Interlodge on Tuesday. On Monday, LCC had chain restrictions. The snowpack is incredibly unstable, but deep. Something on the order of 120 inches since Dec. 22, IIRC.

As for the Holiday Inn in Midvale, I can't say one way or the other. However, I did reserve <shameless plug> from the First Tracks!! Online Discount Travel Center </shameless plug> the room I stayed in this week, a studio in the Sky Harbor Suites between downtown and the airport. $46 per night for a studio bedroom; a full kitchen with all dishes, pots pans and utensils; and a separate bathroom with walk-in closet. Cable TV, coffee maker, hair dryer, etc. included in the room. Immaculate. Kind of an odd setup, for they rent about a dozen of these AAA-approved studios in the midst of what is otherwise an apartment complex, but I'd stay there again in a heartbeat -- especially at that price!

There are lots of inexpensive digs in the Valley. Just prior to Christmas I stayed in the Crystal Inn in Murray. That's convenient to the canyons, and included a full breakfast buffet (eggs, belgian waffles, bacon, cereal, juice, coffee, etc.) for $69.95/night.

Dude, what a GREAT way to phrase the snow dumpage! Get back out there now and strap on the skis!

Thanks for the info, definitely helpful!!!

Would you care to elaborate? Is the FTO home office moving permanently?

Yep. There's an active discussion thread on point here.

I can't lay claim to it...I stole it from a buddy. It was too good a phrase to forget!

Most Sierra storms continue on to the Wasatch, and that has been consistently the case this year. The big news this time is last weekend's Pineapple Express that poured rain on the SoCal mountains has brought Utah-style dumps to the Southwest and western Colorado: 4 feet Arizona and New Mexico areas, 6 feet Crested Butte and Durango and 8 feet at Wolf Creek. The I-70 corridor and Front Range have averaged about 2 feet, with Aspen and Vail getting about 3 feet.
