Extended season @ Bachelor

From Mt Bachelor this morning:

Our big news is we will stand pat on full season pass prices for the third consecutive year. That’s right, your 2010/11 full pass will cost the same as it did back in 2008/09. Oh, we also intend to keep skiing and riding through Memorial Day weekend, too, as long as Mother Nature and our guests decide to play along! Two more snow-riding weeks at one of the best springtime mountains in North America is our gift to you.

Patience is a virtue:

We’re completing a host of resort improvements this summer as well. Over $2.2 million worth to be exact. Topping the list, we’ve added two new grooming machines, including a second winch-cat for grooming the steepest terrain. Mt. Bachelor’s fleet of groomers is now one of, if not the newest fleet in the West. A new, 200 foot long covered conveyor lift for beginners will be installed in the West Village base area, with the existing 70 foot conveyor relocated to the Sunrise learning area. Significant investment in lift maintenance continues this summer with major projects on Summit, Northwest and Skyliner Express lifts in addition to our routine preventative maintenance projects on all the lifts. The alpine and Nordic ski rental fleets have been extensively upgraded. New music and public address sound systems have been installed in Pine Marten and Sunrise lodges. The half pipe has been widened. Sunrise Lodge and Junior Race Center are both receiving face lifts including a new color scheme to match West Village. And finally, projects with positive environmental impacts are progressing, including conversion of the Sunrise Lodge heating system from oil to propane and addition of a new airlock on the Ski & Sports building.

I have very fond memories of skiing batchelor on may 22-24th 1995 on my big western road trip. best corn i've skied, ever, cept for out east. very similar quality to here.

i can remember skiing blissful completely untracked corn in the pinnacles and on cows face.

And they are actually letting everyone know before March to boot!
Considering that the snow lasts until July in average years, Memorial Day is a pretty safe call.

With regard to icelantic's observation, the most consistent lift served corn anywhere. His experience was similar to mine May 3-4, 1990. April 2000 was better since Northwest was open and thus the entire backside was available to follow the sun all day.

I love this passage in particular. Translation: we egregiously skimped on necessary maintenance on these lifts in previous years, leading to a massive build-up of deferred maintenance requirements that lead to lower reliability and may even have endangered guest safety in the interim for the benefit of our corporate paymasters in Park City. You can thank us for finally catching up.
