my first trip out west since i got married 15yrs ago. :D

Careful, Jason...eventually the trips start getting more frequent, and the next thing you know you're driving a rental truck across the U.S. I know whereof I speak.

Congrats! Be sure to send up a flare about a week before you get here, and we'll hook up for some of the best the Wasatch has to offer.

I'm not planning on a Rental truck. I'm probably going to use a POD when I make my move. Now if only someone will buy my house! The thought of enduring another eastern snow, rain, slush, ice, snow, thaw, slush, etc., etc., season depresses me. Regardless, whether I move or not, I will come out to UT to ski next season.

Peter, look to into ABF's U-Pack service (http://www.u-pack.com IIRC). when we moved our Florida stuff 6 months later they were the cheapest option, even cheaper than driving a truck ourselves. the concept is similar to PODS, in that they drop a trailer, you fill it, then they pick it up. Their service was very good for us. (We had to move/consolidate two households when we moved here: one in FL and one in NY).

I'm familiar with their program. In fact, I went up to Providence RI to help my son Peter Jr. move his (then) fiance to his condo in Kenner LA last July before their wedding. They are cheaper than PODs, but do not fit into my plans. I need to both move my stuff, and store most of it for some indeterminate time. With the POD I will have more time flexibility loading here in the east, and they will hold it in storage as long as I need in SLC. With ABF I have too small a "window" for loading and unloading, and would need to get out west ahead of the shipment, and rent additional storage since I plan to live in some furnished accomodations for a couple of weeks until we pick a place to rent. We mght also want to take a few "detours" on the run west since my wife is a "fabric fanatic" (for her quilting) and there are a number of fabric sources that (in our prior travels through all 50 states) she has not yet shopped at! I also wasn't happy with the fact that ABF was 9 hours late dropping off the trailer while our loading crew waited, and some of her stuff got pretty wet because the particular trailer leaked badly.

Before I entered into the institution of marriage. I used to go out west every Jan and March.. I would sure like to do that again.
