Out of the 14 days I've skied Gore this year...this was probably the 3rd best. Temps in the low 30's at the base with upper 20's mostly the rule with a light wind. It was snowing most of the day but kinda like a hard flurrie so it only accumulated to maybe an inch in places. It was sunny most of the day too. Who knows where the snow was comming from but it had that cool effect standing on the summit with all the trees incased in white rime and the recent 12-18 inches of snow in the past week...all while the sun was shining and it was snowing lightly. Probably 1-2 inches on top of perfect packed powder most areas and this was the best shape I've seen the lower mountain in all season. No ice at all...except maybe Wild Air.

The parking lot was packed at 830am when we got there but there was a serious race going on and that took most of the people. All morning was spent up in the Straightbrook area. Hawkeye was awesome for fast turns as it was groomed and again perfect packed powder with some loose stuff on top to boot. Chatimac was left ungroomed(thankfully Gore decides to leave something ungroomed) and that was a nice change of pace with lightly powdered bumps. Straightbrook Glades and Chatimac Glades were open and Straightbrook were the best. Charging down that liftline hopping off every rock in sight is such a rush. Loose powder to be had everywhere. We did about 4-5 straight runs from 930-1030 up in the Straightbrook Glades. The only limiting factor is the slow chair.
