Probably the wrong forum but, anyone been spring skiing this time of year at Gore? Its the closest good size mountain I can find to Ohio. Worth the drive?

Once you're driving from Ohio, why not add an hour and go to a much bigger and better mountain like Whiteface or something in VT. Late March often sees some nice-size storms and often skis more like mid-winter than spring

We did Whiteface last year- excellent mountain. Since they have interchangeable tickets I was thinking about 2 days at Gore and one day at Whiteface. I think Vermont would be another 2 hours, but that would just get me to the Killington area. If I could make Jay, Stowe, or Sugarbush that quick I may try them instead but I think the drive would be more than I want. Plus Gore/Whiteface have really good prices at the end of the season- I think my ticket last year was $85 for 3 days.

March is the best time of year to go to Gore. The snow has been so-so this year but generally March is the best month for Gore.

I went to Gore last season and would not recommend it to most people. They do a terrible job with snowmaking. The terrain is mediocre at best. The lifts are prone to wind closures. Food was awful. Ski school was lame for my kids. I could go on.....or

For March 2002 (a lean snow year so far), here's my experienced suggestion. Drive to Lake George and stay at one of the inexpensive chain hotels there. Then its an easy 1hr15min drive to Killington, 1hr to Pico, or 40min to Gore. On trips to Killington, I've saved a lot of money by staying in Rutland,VT or Lake George,NY. I think it's about 1hr45min to Whiteface from Lake George. Whiteface is worth the trip in March/April. In fact I will only go to Whiteface in the late winter because of the severe weather there in mid-season.

I don't know what it is with Gore. You see a lot of people that love it, but a lot are really lukewarm on it. What level skier are you? Heck, I'll be happy if there aren't any liftlines and most of the trails are covered! Beats our 250' of vertical at the local "hill" (Boston Mills/Brandywine OH).

Love it. Awesome tree-powder skiing. Many hidden stashes. No lines.
