Well you know yesterday at Grand Targhee must have Extraordinary when today is the first real powder day in Park City and instead of being out on the mountain I’m typing this report from my computer.
Thursday afternoon we drove up to Jackson as we got a report from a friend that the snow was really coming down up there. So we spent Thursday night in Jackson and it looked like they had picked up a couple of inches during the day, but the word around town was it was going off at Targhee and it sure was. When we arrived at Targhee at 8:30 am the report was stating 13 inches and it was accurate at the base. Though I’d have to say up in Mary’s area there was far more snow then 13 inches the report was quoting. Fortunately for George and I, George had a friend who used to live in Park City and now in Draper and he and his friend gave us the royal tour of Grand Targhee.
Basically the first four laps of the day were spent on the Dreamcatcher quad. The snow was great and deep and we were still finding untracked lines through 11 am. At about 11 am we decided to venture off into Mary’s area. After a 15 minute hike although it was taking me more like 25 minutes to reach the top of Mary’s (Yeah I know i'm out of shape) there were so many lines to ski you just simply had to choose one. The snow was so great back there that we decided to skip lunch all together and just lap it all day. I'd say we probalby lapped it about 7 times and each time we took another line with more fresh. Since our day started at 9am and ended just before 4pm, today I’m about sore as one could possibly get, I forgot about all those different muscles you use when you ski pow. Any great time up at Targhee! Thanks Matt and Matt for showing us around, i'm sure we will be back.
