Skied Gunsight at Alta Ski Area last Sunday, July 13, 2008. We hiked up the dirt utility road on the Collins side, and then crossed the sketchy scree slope that is basically the top of the Racecourse and Sunspot ski runs to get to Gunsight's back door.

The skiing was a bit dodgy with all the rocks, branches and pine cones littering the snow, but it wasn't bad at all. In fact, it was really fun. Enjoy the attached photos and/or check out more photos and details at http://www.skiing311.net/skiing/ski_days.php?id=252&season=5

Nice!! =D> Well played. We skied Gunsight in August in 2005. It's amazing how that line holds snow.

And welcome to Liftlines at FTO, skiing311! We used to require that folks included their location on registration, but alas that fell by the wayside with our recent phpBB upgrade. Please feel free to include that in your user profile so that other users know where you're at.

ROCKIN.

Up there tomorrow night for some turns before the free concert at snowbird! Shizzam. Life is good.

Speaking of concerts, Flogging Molly is playing the Great Salt Air Pavillion on Saturday night. Who's in?

Have fun! As mentioned elsewhere Tele Jon and I will be paddling the southern leg of Flaming Gorge and camping along the shore somewhere. We're driving out that way Friday evening and pitching a tent on the side of the road on BLM land somewhere around 30 miles west of Manila, then dropping our kayaks in the water early Saturday a.m. We'll set up camp and then go explore Horseshoe Canyon, Kingfisher Island, etc.

I just got done going to the grocery store and packing everything for a quick departure after work tomorrow.

These folks paddled the same part of the lake:

The easier way: drive up the Albion Basin road to the Catherine Pass trailhead - the parking lot with the outhouse on Vail Ridge just after crossing under the Sunnyside Triple lift - then walk the service road past Alf's restaurant, switchbacking up the Backside till it makes sense to head up and right through the forest over to the base of Gunsight. Change boots and boot up the snow. Ski.

Of course the road doesn't open till tomorrow.....
