Homewood reminds me of the ski areas I went to when I was a kid growing up. Except that in VT and NH, there weren't views of Lake Tahoe that could knock your socks off!

Skiing was great. Throwback to the good old days. No high speed quads, just lots of snow and fun trails. And the views!

Lots of snow in Tahoe now. Temps were in the 50's and lots of sunshine.

not much here on homewood so i thought i'd echo the above.

skied there sunday and was impressed with the possibilities. "possibilities" because the best of homewood - off-piste - was too crunchy to be sampled. "quail face," the steepest terrain, was (wisely) closed.

lots of nice tree shots. imagining a foot or so of fresh gets the mind salivating. as it was, the lower elevation and the sun occassionally peeking through - we got graupeled(sp?) on - made for some spring conditions on the lower half of the mountain, to the point where i did get into the trees a bit. still, it was a day one stores in the memory bank for future reference (though the low-key vibe may change with the new ownership).

if you've skied there, you have every right to be bothered by the fact that i'm not posting pictures. camera seemed to have a hard time with the cold. suffice to say, being right on the lake, there's no shortage of eye candy.

were i on the south shore on a powder day, i'd hit homewood, not heavenly.

That does not work very well as Highway 89 around Emerald Bay closes with 6 inches of snow and if they get much more, if can stay closed for many days. I've drove the long way around the Lake twice in one day, mostly because Homewood had diaper daycare then (and I probably had a ticket deal).

There is severe avalanche danger on the slide on the South side of the bay that was caused by cutting highway across slope. A snowplow was knocked off the highway one year. When I lived on the West Shore 30 years ago, if there was a decent winter, Emerald Bay did not open.

Also a correction. Homewood upgraded their old quad, which may have been first one at Tahoe, to a High Speed Quad this year.

My best powder day of the year before CO was Homewood, on the last day a free ski show ticket was valid, with 8-12" new and not much competetion for it. We had to drive the long way to So. Shore after skiing, but had a designated driver and traded in our ski tickets at last Casino on right for free drink, then went to Biltmore across the street for many 99 cent shrimp cocktails.
