Hoodoo: New Year's Eve

For those of you who don't know, Hoodoo is a small family ski area on Santiam Pass. Since I had to work during the day I missed a killer bluebird powder day at Bachelor. But it was a "cluster f...", as everyone in town for the holidays went up to ski since the sun had finally come out. You got one insane powder run and then it was gone.
Anyway, I jumped at the chance to go to Hoodoo for night skiing with the family. I've never gone there and it's my fourteenth season here in Central Oregon. It's about an hour from Bend and we decided to take the RV and make it an event.
We paid $22 for tickets and jumped into the big liftline. It was really interesting people watching as a lot of the folks who apparently frequent Hoodoo are "irregulars", you know, people who don't go all the time. But it was really fun and they had a fireworks show at 9:00 PM that was hot! Oh yeah, did I mention that the snow was great?

I used to ski Hoodoo back in my college days (Oregon State) all of the time. They ran great deals for students - 10 bucks for a lift ticket which was great for a poor college kid. I was there for the first season of the Hodag lift but never did get to see the new lodge.

Although an unspectacular ski area, the scenery was beautiful and there are some hidden gems if you know where to look.

Thanks for bringing the memories back!
