How's things now??

Was friggin DEEP yesterday.

For sure best day THIS season...probably #20 in my top 20 all time though...

FACE SHOTS GALORE....

I'd say by about mid day wednesday it will all be hit by the evil powder destroying sun.

Was nice for sure.

Skied alone so no pics.

NICE! I''m coming out friday with some people I met on the Montana trip..prolly skiing the Bird and Alta sat-Mon...guess it will be spring conditions but at least its all covered...

Yes I was at Alta too Monday with 38 inches new. Last week's old snow is very well buried (along with one of my ski poles ). If it's warm as predicted I'd say 2 days at Snowbird and 1 at Alta for your visit. Maybe start with Alta on Saturday (likely busiest day); if the warmup is gradual perhaps the High T won't be as bad as it probably was last week. I would stick to LCC; other areas will take a bigger hit from the sun.

Are the Baldy chutes open?
Unlikely IMHO. They were never open to my knowledge during the warm week I was at Iron Blosam March 10-16. It's been a bad year for snow stability as most of you know.

Only Main Chute has been open this season, and for only 2 days. As Tony said, unlikely to extremely unlikely. Our snowpack is still weak, with multiple failure planes, and we're looking at a rapid warm up starting tomorrow, further stressing the snowpack.

I retract my statement - Main Chute is open today, as is East Baldy (but not the EB Chutes). Frankly, I'm very surprised.

Or not..the avi reports are pretty sketchy, sounds like it could slide anywhere...
Always remember that the avi bulletins are *exclusively* for the side & back country, not within resorts and their controlled terrain. Doesn't mean it can't slide in-bounds as we well know, just extremely low probability.

Does anyone want to purchase a discount Alta day ticket? I have one available.
$65

3/27/12 update: ticket sold.
