Interior BC Snow!

Good evening Liftlines - I have been reading many of the posts for both East & West for a number of years and really have enjoyed the depth and quality of information found herein. You are an august group indeed. That said, I find most of the postings to be decidedly americo-centric in focus (well most of you are Americans after all) with scant few if any regular updates about your neighbours to the North - Yes I am Canadian! and proud of it. Ironically I am a flat-lander here in S.Ontario and to satisfy my white powder addiction I must either venture to Tremblant QC - a leasurely 9-10 hour drive North East or make a pilgramage West to Alberta and the BC interior and hit any or all of Louise, KHMR, RMR, Red, Fernie, Castle and the like in a circuitous route starting and ending in Calgary.
Anyway, it has been snowing this week in the BC interior...Revelstoke reports 51cm (20") in the last 48hrs in today's report - their 1st. Silverstar claims a 70cm base up top and Whitewater has received 87cm of the white stuff in October. Sounds like a good start...Can I get an Amen?

Canadians are welcome here last I checked. :-D The postings reflect where the board members ski--and since a large fraction of us ski Canada (particularly BC for my household)--more posting about conditions and areas are of interest. BTW, Fernie also looks to be starting the season with a good base:

Yeah, we let Patrick in, didn't we? And how could you miss the Shames epic?

Welcome, longshanks. I've done a slightly shorter version of that roadtrip route nearly a decade ago: Sunshine, Louise, Panorama, Fernie, Castle, plus a quick twin-engine jaunt from Calgary to Golden and back to Calgary at the very start of the trip. It's a good one.

Of course, you're not limited to Tremblant in the East from Toronto (and to be honest, for my personal preferences Tremblant would be well down the list). In a similar distance you can make Jay, Stowe, Sugarbush or the Townships, and as Patrick will be quick to point out Whiteface in even less time.

Only if they bring us a case of beer.

And for Marc_C and yours truly, it doesn't even need to be Canadian, just from out of state.

I may live in SoCal, but I've skied at least a week in Canada every season since 1996-97. Summary here:
AREA Vert(x1,000) Days
Blackcomb 210.4 9
Whistler 221.9 10
Island Lake Snowcat 123.2 9
Fernie Alpine Resort 99.1 4
Whitewater 19 1
Red Mt. 97.1 5
TLH Heliski 69.3 3
Selkirk-Tangiers Heli 18.3 1
Apex Alpine 37.7 2
Big White 26.2 1
Silver Star 23.6 1
CAT Powder Skiing 27.4 2
Castle Mt. 92.4 4
RK Heliski 15.6 1
Lake Louise 148.7 6
Sunshine Village 98.2 5
Retallack Snowcat 21.1 2
CMH Kootenay Heli 35.2 2
Kicking Horse 93.2 5
Mt. Norquay 16.7 1
Stoneham 14.2 1
Mt. Ste. Anne 12.8 1
Le Massif 19.3 1
Mont Grands-Fonds 17 1
Panorama 24.3 1
Great Northern Snowcat 31.5 3
Mike Wiegele Heli 141 8
Sun Peaks 37.5 2
Chatter Creek Snowcat 135.4 12
Marmot Basin 19.8 1
Nakiska 16.6 1
Canada Olympic Park 2.1 1
Revelstoke 67.1 3
Eagle Pass Heli 23.5 1
34 areas total 2,056,400 vertical 111 days

I've done that "Calgary Loop" trip or a close variant 3 times. Admin and I independently skied Castle Mt. in 1999, the first year it expanded up to 2,800 vertical.

I have often expressed interest in finding some local input from western Canada to FTO. Patrick represents eastern Canada quite well on his own, with a few others making occasional contributions.

With regard to October snow at Revelstoke, Whitewater etc. I suspect their local population base will not support opening before whatever the scheduled date in late November or early December is. Please advise if I'm mistaken in this assumption. There was one year a while back when Big White opened in October.

Mr. Crocker that is one impressive resume of Canadian Skiing - and that on top of everywhere else you talk about. You Sir are dedicated to the craft, or nuts, or wealthy or a combination of the 3. I envy you.
