Our perception of "noticeably exceptional" is correlated far more with snow and Wx conditions than total snowfall as it is in other areas. IOW, a 48" powder day does not feel particularly more exceptional than a 36" powder day. The number of powder days, the lack of getting spring conditions in Jan or Feb due to an unseasonably warm spell, the lack (or quick recovering) of a temperature or sun crust, etc. are much more important to the exceptional year metric. The one attribute that is directly associated with amount of snowfall (other than length of season) is how well filled in certain lines become - width, absence of usually mandatory air, boniness, etc.jamesdeluxe":26ndo9a9 said:Given that even average years in the Cottonwoods are great by any other region's yardstick, has this season seemed noticably exceptional to you guys compared to one where it "only" gets to the mid-500s?
Apologies in advance if that sounded like a post-season question.
Agree 100%. The powder days are subject to a lot of variables: snow density, wind, timing of storms for those who work and can't take every new snow day off. Then there's the question of whether you want it to snow moderately over several days or a lot all at once.MarcC":3n62tt8f said:The one attribute that is directly associated with amount of snowfall (other than length of season) is how well filled in certain lines become - width, absence of usually mandatory air, boniness, etc.
