five days straight. well, the first day was from 1-4pm and the last day i
rode was 9-11am and 3 full days in between.

we hit it right. i guess that Jackson was pretty dry until about xmas time.
we showed up to a mountain that had received 40" in the past 7 days, so
there was plenty of pockets still left over all around the mountain. the
first day we just rode lifts and covered as much as the hill as wel
could.......until i departed from my group to hit the superpipe for about
2hours. they have a rope tow that you can ride right next to the pipe.
dam, talk about spoiled. fresh cut superpipe with a tow up the side of it.
it was nice. i got stuck at my usual height of about 4' coming out of the
pipe and got frustrated, so i took off to scope out the rest of the hill. we
rode the gondola most of the time along with the lifts Thunder and
Sublette. i tried to go find the Alta chutes, but i ended up riding
somewhere else and got misplaced in another spot on the hill where i
came across some nice pow by surprise. trails called Bivouac, and Lower
Sublette Ridge.

the second day and for the rest of the trip we discovered the hiking and
diverted from riding all the lift accessed terrain. DUH! weren't we stupid
by wasting our time with riding lift accessed terrain the day before? the
hiking is where it's at. the main spots where we rode alot were the
Headwall, Casper Bowl, Sheridan Bowl (once) and the Crags. we hit the
Crags like 5 or 6 times. plenty of snow to go around over there, but
some more dicey lines were rather boney and could use a little flush to
see what was just a couple of inches under the snow (rocks). Shot 8 and
Shot 7 had great coverage. all kinds of little pillow drops. enough to
make you sick. then after those lines you get to rock out and hit some
trees with a moderate pitch and pretty much fresh tracks. we had to try
to ride were it had not been tracked out. by tracked out, i mean one or
two tracks. they were kind of mellow, but super fun.

we never got to go O.B.. i wanted to get out to Rock Springs, but i only
had 5 days and we just went where the snow was good and close and
could make laps fairly easily. the first couple of days there was about a 3
or 4 tram wait. gondola to Thunder to Sublette took about the same
time. quicker if you just bomb the groomers in between chairs. all our
hiking started from Tensleep Bowl up towards the headwall and traverse
from there over to Casper, the Crags, and Sheridan Bowl. we saw some
snowboarder drop about a 40' cliff on our first hike. this is before we
knew about the hike from Tensleep Bowl which is more of a traverse hike
than a straight up hike like the hike from the Gondola. we only did that
one once.

GREAT SNOW THE WHOLE TIME (mountain wide).......especially after we
found the hiking. all in bounds stuff and it was almost like riding
backcountry. i heard that the pass was riding awesome and the
backcountry advisories were MODERATE all last week. riding in pow up at
the pass that was up past your waist when you rode.......as someone had
described it to me.

JACKSON IS THE SHITE. a few pics to come once i use up the rest of the
film. jackson is a mandatory trip for next year, and so is the pass. that
place just has way to much to offer. it was VERY hard to leave

Any decent skier who visits JH has to be awestruck by the terrain quality. As discussed before we are usually frustrated by baked-out snow later in the season with the SE exposure. These pics are as as good an advertisement as any for my previous advice: go in January. Someday I will have to do that myself.
