I'm pretty sure that Bob Peters would totally disagree with you.

But Crocker will tell you that you have a 79.8379245 percent chance of having crap snow with a standard deviation of 0.34 at the 95% confidence interval based on 35.478 years of elk fur thickness data.

And Bob would reply that it is all good, you just need to know how and where to ski it. Yes, I witnessed in-person Tony questioning Bob on the subject back in 2006. It was somewhat surreal...number skier geek vs pure skier which doesn't give a crap what other say about JH because he's always has fun.

Substitute "Utah" for "JH" and that's pretty much what happens every time Crocker visits Utah.

I've never skied JH any time later than the end of January, so I have no first-hand experience to say that Tony is wrong. My question for him is: if he won the spring giveaway contest, would he go there at the end of March or pay to go elsewhere?

Went to JH in early March, everything was refrozen and pretty terrible especially the lower faces. Went 3 other January's and was great 2 of them, one was pretty terrible as well. Free trip, yeah I'd go, but otherwise I would ahead to UT or Mammoth.

I would unload it on E-Bay, Craiglist or one of the ski forums.

On the infamous 1986 trip, after paying for a one week package, I left after one day (successfully unloading the lifts tickets) and paid to go elsewhere for the rest of the week.

Maybe true for Bob, who can ski better than 99.9% of skiers, no surprise from living in Jackson with a lift + backcountry ski streak approaching 200 months. FYI even Bob admits that the inversion season, which keeps the lower mountain in cold and dry winter snow, is essentially done by Feb. 15, a similar timeframe as Salt Lake's inversions. So by late March MarcC's
79.8379245 percent chance of having crap snow
might even be a touch on the generous side. Jackson averages 59 inches of March snow, which translates to 14% of days with 6 inches or more. I'll let people make their own judgments about how many inches of Teton powder are necessary to produce good skiing over a coral reef subsurface.

On a more positive note, Adam texted a pic of his successful entry into Corbet's yesterday.

He jumped, and did it again today. He said it's not the first turn that critical, it's the second one to avoid slamming into the rock wall skier's right side of the couloir.

Rarely is Corbet's sideslippable. Liz was lucky to be there in 2004 when that was possible.

I agree with Tony Crocker that you need to prepared for variable conditions if you book Jackson too late in the year. This year, the temperature warmed from -10F in town and at base of hill and -31F wind chill on top of tram on the morning of Thurs. 2/6, to mid-30s and snowing on Sat. and Sun.

On Monday, my fifth day in a row skiing Jackson, the sun came out for the first time and quickly started to affect the snow that faced into it. I looked into Corbet's and said NFW. Maybe next year, but it would have to be more filled in and somebody would need to be there with a camera.

Report and more pictures will eventually follow, but here are some pictures of Corbets from Monday. The first one is from my 1st tram on Monday when it was still snowing at the top.

Jeremy Jones and Corbets will be on 60 minutes in March. Trailer at http://www.tetongravity.com/blogs/Sixty ... 562234.htm

I strongly agree. The first turn is 'easy'. It's the second turn you better not mess up!

I've been at JH in late March for a full week and it was mostly spectacular... But then it was during a storm cycle of several feet. Just goes to show that some will get lucky while others better be prepared for less than winter conditions.

A top 5 percent experience at least. But not one I'd want to bet airfare on.

No it shows that if you live within a one week trip drive distance, you should have Jackson on your radar for storm chasing considering how amazing the place is in deep powder. As a mainly summer resort you can always find a reasonable place to stay on a short notice trip. But if you book way ahead to fly in during March you're a sucker going there vs. a substantial list of places (many in EMSC'S backyard) where it's usually still winter.
