If you weren't at Jay this weekend, you did not have the best snow in the east, no, in the country.

The snow consistency was extremely light and fluffy, and it snowed just about the whole weekend.

Saturday we skied up Timbuktu right off. I've never had so many freshies in those woods, run after run. Definitely one of my favorites. There was a hard base that made its presence in various spots. About 6-8" of snow on hard base to start the day. Got a bit skied off by 11, but then It snowed all day and conditions kept getting better and better. Snowed over night and this morning the snow was above the knees. All the gladed trails beside Timbuktu had treacherous entries, but once a few turns in were beautiful. It was worth pickin your way through rock/ice to get in. Kitz, Canyonlands, Bonavanture, Hells, etc. We stayed on the Stateside as it was very windy and cold on the other side.

I was there early Sunday and ready to get on the first chair. I had planned to drive over to Stateside once I got my ticket and begin my day on Timbuktu as I did the day before working my way over from boundary to boundary. But I could not refuse an invitation, so I got started on the GMF side. The sun was coming out and he said that today was THE BEST day of the season. First run down Exhibition in almost thigh deep snow! Next run was poma line down to the BBP entrance. Shuffled up the hill, under the ski area boundary and into The Beyond. It was soooooo beautiful in there, a veritable winter wonderland! I launched off one and landed with my left ski going deep and clicked out of my binding. Went down inhaling snow and choking on it. Its been many years since I snorted powder up my nose. Took me a while to locate the detached ski which was 2' down! Who'da thunk that I shoulda used my powder cords. Wished i had as I was digging deep into the fluff in a 10' distance from where I landed. Some cool gullies that were like whoop-de-doos as we began the traverse back to the trail. I had never been back that far. Nice shots. Not difficult to get back as long as you don't go down too far.

I headed out to find my friends. Took a run through Canyonlands before it got too skied up and through the Bonaventure glades that were choked with fluffy snow. Over on the Jet I ran into a few people I knew right away, ducked into Stateside Glade for some more freshies. Timbuktu all still in great shape with fresh still to be had. A run on Kitz, and it was starting to get skied off, but once you get half-way down it improved dramatically, same for Hell's Woods. My group all were done and I needed a couple more before heading out. Went over to Vertigo with some nice dudes I met on the lift from MA. Again, sketchy entrance, but once you got in, it was nice n fluffy.

I skied for 8 days 2 weeks ago in the Canadian Rockies and I was never as sore as I am today. I think the skiing in the east is more physically demanding. More demanding turns in the woods, lots of quicker turns and much firmer bumps. Out west you just let it rip, and even the bump runs are bigger with wider turns than we do here. My calves are sore, and this is something that I didn't experience after skiing hard from 9-4 at Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. My legs were tired after Kicking Horse, but not sore like this. Maybe it was the 7 hrs in the car. Getting out of the car and putting the feet on the ground and standing was more challening than hucking off a rock in BBBP. Must be time for this ole gal to go in the hot tub.

What a great weekend. I hope you all were able to get out and enjoy the new snow.
