Time to break out your rock skis. Soft granular man-made snow with lots of soft ice rinks, and

some bare spots. With temps between 50 to 60 degrees, the ice spots were soft enough to carve.

Rocks, ice, grass, and maybe a small critter or two were what made up the skiing surface

Saturday. If it were not for man-made snow, there would be no skiing here. The upper third of the

mountain was engulfed in a cloud, and at times it was misty enough to leave droplets on my

goggles.

I took Left Bank as a warm up and a means to get to Widow White's Chair as I haven't been there

yet this season. Schelping across the level ground to get to the trail was not too bad. There

were some area's with stones popping through the snow and ice. The snow was carvable, with the

hard pack base softening enough to feel more like packed powder than asphalt.

From Widow White's I took Panaorama, but all I could see was cloud. This trail was in bad shape.

There were many ice patches, and quite a bit of brown snow. I had the feeling this was the first

and last time this year I would be on this trail.

As pathetic as the conditions were getting they were not as challenging as dodging other skiers

became. The limited number of trails was forcing us to ski the same ones and they were becoming

crowded.

On my final run down on Left Bank the very last section was almost entirely an ice rink forcing

some skiers to walk down, and the more capable all had to make it down a ten foot stip far to the

skier's left. Fun for me, but I can remeber this being skier's hell and felt bad for those who

had to fumble down. It must've been near 60 degrees by now as the snow was getting very mushy.

All in all, a good morning skiing in some of the worst spring conditions I've had to expereince.

It was warm, damp and fun!
