Yesterday was spectacular. It is fourteen days after the vernal equinox and everything (except Widow White's Peak) was open and skiable! The glades and the natural snow trails that often do not open in the middle of the winter were well covered. The sky was blue, the sun was warm, and the air temperature got up to the low 50's. These were perfect spring skiing conditions.

I had only a few hours to ski, so I waited until 11 AM to arrive to allow the snow to soften. Although I expected only a couple dozen cars, I was surprised to find that the second parking lot was almost full when I arrived. It was not crowded, but there were enough folks around to make it worthwhile for the mountain to stay open. I suppose that they are saving Widow White's Peak for the weekend. Jiminy plans to stay open through April 15 and may stay open later if the snow holds and people keep coming out to ski.

Yesterday's soft sun-baked snow made skiing easy. Steeps like White Tail and Jericho that can be sheets of ice in a normal winter were covered with smooth carvable snow. Ace of Spades and John Hancock were primo.

If skiing is this good south of southern Vermont, imagine what it is like in the Green Mountain State. Get out and ski it!
