This year Kicking Horse skied better than Revelstoke, very much the opposite of last season. Last year was an 80% season in western Canada, so many of KH's steeps were obstructed. With this year's above average snowpack I was able to ski a couple of lines off CPR and Redemption Ridges that I had not done before. Kicking Horse probably escaped the Jan. 9-10 rain also, as there was no hard subsurface on the groomers, even at the bottom. Some of that could be exposure as the KH groomers face due east while Revelstoke's face southwest. With the deeper snowpack Kicking Horse also groomed the runouts from Bowl Over and Feuz Bowl, saving some grunt work.

I stayed as in previous years at Kicking Horse Canyon B&B, run by a former Chatter Creek chef. There were 2 other guests there from Denmark so I skied with them at Kicking Horse. They were very strong skiers, looking for steeps and moguls and hopefully powder. I told them they were probably going have to do a heli day (Purcell is down the street from the B&B) to get any powder before they go home. As usual I left before 1:30 to make the heli flight to Chatter Creek.

Coming out of Bowl Over, the Danes liked the short step-up and traverse to mogulled Terminator on the skier's right boundary of the area:

We skied off CPR Ridge above and then just left of the trees at center right (probably Dorchester on trail map):
