I made it to the KBL at 7:30 AM and snagged a decent parking spot, but noticed there was already a line for the K1 gondola. The weather was warm and it was evident that there was a melt down in progress. It turned out to be a great ski day; warm, sunny, hero bumps and lots of people. Did I mention it was crowded?

The crowds stuck to the trails were snow had been made as the natural snow trails had thin cover. I actually found it easier to ski around rocks, thin spots and roots which didn't move than to dodge skies on crowded bump runs. Several of the "Thin Cover" trails were empty top to bottom, so it was bizzare coming back onto the snow making trails with loads of skiers. I was really glad that I had chosen to use my beater rock skis as I did clack some granite.

A woman slid down East Fall on her face while attempting to walk down carrying her skis. She made it to the bottom in one piece after hitting another skier. The Canyon Quad didn't have much of a line, but the Glade chair and Snowdon Quad had fairly long lines. I only rode the K-1 at 8:00 when it opened.

Lift tickets were $49 which is expensive, but I felt I got my money's worth. Doing lots of soft bumps makes for a great start to the ski season.

I was sorry to see that Mother Shapiro's is no more. Sushi is a fun apres ski food, but I'll miss the chicken soup at Mother's.
