hit k on monday. very cold, but not unbearable... looked like they got about 10 to 15 over the previous 48 hrs... they had a resort stated total of over 100 trails and 19 lifts...no real crowds to speak of like the previous months outings in k... the expanded lifts really helped that out... quite windy though.. lots of stalls on the gondy. rams head area was open with snowdon , k peak and superstar area... another hs q was running going over towards bear mtn/ bear is not open but i heard whispers they will get it going this weekend on the outer limits...pretty goods pp all over with some surprisingly large spots of hp... but still pretty darn good... also surprisingly , not a lot of consistent bump lines yet... but it's still early i keep telling myself...drove back to lincoln in a blizzard all the way on rt's 4, 89 , 91 and 112...not really sure what they picked up. hit bretton on tuesday. the bretton snow line kicked in with about 6 at the base and a good 8 at the top ( can't call it a summit... that implies some sort of vertical!!!!! loon appeared to get their usual 1 inch on the way out tuesday morning... . bw called it 14 trails ... its's really about 6 with one lift... buddy gil and i behaved all morning but jumped the ropes all afternoon... skiers extreme right trees were absolutely loaded with first tracks... up to 30 inches of wind blown in some spots off the roz trees....unfortuately again, it is bretton and the suspect vertical tended to present the occasional foreward momentum problems... last hour of the day was spent on the west side where they were blowing fast and furious... one trail was not being blown on though and offered the best skiing to date... a legit 18 of untracked pristine 4% wc was had for 4 runs... a rather unfortunate turn of events found us catching the last lift up at 3:59pm,,, which put us cruising out of the outrun at the base at about 4:25p... just in time to ski by the little men in red jackets with white crosses on the backs...bretton is the type of place that does not like any trouble.. no boat rocking.. no nothing...stress free skiing was their logo a few years ogo i think... galloping gil skied right past the 2 hand waving , foot stomping, red jackets, took the stairs by the lodge on the fly, slid a 3 ft rail and skied right to the parking lot... i had 2 pairs of skis working that day so i had to stop and pick up the 2nd... i was promptly surrounded . things got a little nasty when i said my purchased day ticket must have fallen off after admiting to the illegal run.... the big cheese did not like that and said " well lets go find your buddy.. we saw him go by too .. we don't like thiefs here " now that killed me casue i had a season pass and if there is one thing i hate it's dead beat dirtbag skiers driving up the price for the rest of us... but i was afraid to give up the pass just yet) fearing a confiscated season pass i was reluctant to produce mine which was stuffed in the jacket and certainly not wanting to give up gill, i denied any knowledge of my fast skiing friend.... things got a little sticky and i had to produce the pass when the grand poo bah picked up the phone to call the nh staties for a theft of services arrest.... in the end we got our hands slapped and names on a list.... gil didn't help out the situation when, responding to the inquiry of " where's your ticket , he replied " i hiked up!!!!!." which caused me to start laughing out loud. my contribution to ski patrol's ire, after noticing that they didn't find the crack funny, included " you guys are taking yourselfs too serious.. what are we in jackson hole jumping corbets? "... in the end i ended up shaking hands with one of the guys and told him i appreciated the job he had to do and apologized for being a wise guy... but man.. they do not like any waves at bretton, thats for sure... the other patroller who stopped us wanted no amicable parting... just a nasty look!!!!! sorry boys.. a fresh 10 in the east the first week of december and all bets are off!!!back next week for 2 from cannon most likely
