like the song goes ' it's been a while.. how've ya been ".. yeah, i got thrown a curve in march that killed my spring ( not that there was one anyways from what i read ).. anyways... i got to k for the week with buddy gil to ( attempt ) to make up for my 6 week lay off...it's pretty simple really at this point... mon through wed they had the k 1 and superstar running.. 1 trail off the k1 gondy and basically 2 ways daow off the ss q... gondy is all done as of thurs... friday had 2 ways down off the ss q... they made attempts to groom the skylarke run but it has/had bumps in sections... can't see it making it past the weekend for the skylark... superstar had really killer moguls all week, the headwall to the mid flat section to the final drop had plenty of coverage , but it is going fast... mon , tues and wed were the hottest days i have ever skied in.. and that includes 2 summer sessions in july at blackcomb..temps must have been real close to 80f at high noon...monday was cloudy t, w and thurs were bluebird.. fri ( today ) was overcast and about 60f.. it was truly exhasting!!!! there is a 60 ft wide grass spot between towers 4 and 5 under the ss q that is growing like a tumor. other wise no real bare spots but really boys , the fat lady is warming up the pipes... they did an outstanding job pushing around snow to keep it ride off and on lifts...which it still is as of 4p on fri...owner/operator of freeride fred's shop on the access rd claims they will stay open till mem day and big triathalon... buddy gil heard a local talking about 8 more days and that's gonna be it... everyone has and opinion.. here's mine... if they get any more 3 day streches like this past mon -wed with temps near 80f ,that will be it for no hiking required...they will still be able to run ,but it will be with a lot of walking... the snow was very consistent all week.. a very pleasant surprise considering the hellish heat...iwould say that after the weekend there will be no more non bump skiing available (fyi), regardless of the weather...i guess that's it folks.. me?, i made my peace and said my goodbyes...ironically, the season started off for buddy gil and i at k, back on 11-11.. we were bashing powder bumps on rime!!!! and then it all.. well.. you all know... and so the season that never got started ( for me anyways ) goes out, not with a bang.. but with a whimper... i am a little depressed becasue i was hoping to ahave a break-through year as far as bumps.. i felt like i didn't ski a full bump run all year until this past week , which, after being thrown into superstar for 5 straight after a 6 week lay-off which made my body feel like i just got hit by truck, is a little depressing...but i guess it could have been worse.. like i tell everyone who will listen.. bad skiing is better than a good day at work (but man did it suck this year or what!!!!! )thanks again to mark for running this site and to all the faithful for checking in.. it helped me out at least 3 times on making the right call for snow conditions..... gil and i are heading back to john smart's summer bump camp for the 3rd and (probably final ) time at blackcomb this july.. keep the faith folks have a safe summer and look at it like this... it can't get much worse next year ( we hope )!!!! later boys!!!!!
