Workers of the world, throw off your shackles and unite! Although there is lots of snow, the running dog capitalists who control the ski lifts in Vermont have shut down all but one lift! The Bosses say that you must earn your turns if you want to ski at Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, or Stowe. The people are tired from toiling in the factory, the delivery truck, or the office. They want to ride a chair lift and the Superstar lift at the Big K was the only one turning on May Day!

A few hundred Vermonters rallied at Killington today to demonstrate their enthusiasm for lift-served skiing. Supporters (including myself) drove in from Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut to show our solidarity. Mother Nature clearly favored the protesters. She provided a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 70's. The corporate lords cannot control the weather! Most of the demonstrators skiied in t-shirts and a several brave souls bared their legs. Management attempted to co-opt the goodwill of the people by sponsoring a free "Fun Day" salom race and by selling legal beverages on the patio.

Many demonstrators enjoyed soft slushy bumps on Superstar. The snow coverage on that trail should be excellent this coming weekend. Preferring to limit my exposure to bumps, I skiied Skyelark, Bittersweet, Cruise Control, Gateway, and Frostline. The latter two trails required a skate back along the Snowshed Crossover to the Superstar lift. The snow was getting thin on the crossover, so I would not be surprised if it and some of the trails that dump out onto it require some walking by the weekend. There was a rope across the connector trail at the top of the Superstar lift leading to Ovation. Ovation was listed as open on the trail report and I saw several people help themselves to it.

Overall, May Day at K was a great victory for the people. La lucha continuar!
