I had anniversary gift for my wife to pickup in Livermore (we were ~30 min too late driving through on actual anniversary). Rather than make a special trip, and do a wine tasting at Wente and/or another winery in area, I tried to pack and leave home at 8:30 and get to Livermore when place opened at nine, then drive 2 hrs 45 min to Kirkwood from there. But I didn’t get on the road until after 9 and had two ~5 min delays on CA-88, due to never ending Liberty Rd Roundabout construction, then tree work near Dew Drop. So it was 12:45 before I turned into Kirkwood and 1:10 when I loaded lift. Fire damage on both side of highway between Silver Lake and Carson Spur.

I took a warm-up on chair 7/Hole-in-the-Wall, then moved to Cornice where I skied Sentinel, then Zachary. Both were good and mostly smooth, but as it has been for most of the month, you wanted to turn where snow has been pushed to rather than scraped off. I moved to The Wall and took two laps. First was down the main face, where snow was good and edgeable at top, then after avoiding some ungroomed and firm mess, the main groomer was also good. I went skiers right on second run and tried Eagle Bowl, but the only good snow was where I spotted patrol facing NE under The Cirque as anything facing towards E or S was too firm. Flags at top of The Wall.

I skied to and rode Sunrise/chair 4/Backside twice. Snow was excellent on main groomer, Elevator Shaft with too hoppy beer on 2nd lap.

Snow was not as good on Cold Shoulder which I skied about halfway before exiting Backside via Thunder Saddle. Entrance was good, but Two Man Chute was bumped out or too uneven and firm where not bumped. I rode chair 2/Caples Crest and skied sunny W-facing Low Whiskey. I almost collided with a patroller on exit as I was turning and trying to carry speed to get to The Wall. I’m not sure why he was cutting corner in opposite direction with speed as Patrol Medical center is easy to get to from chair 1. Since I lost a lot of my momentum, I didn’t make it to The Wall so I rode The Reut and skied Short Spoke/Race Course which had been opened to public and was good along still sunny right side.

I did five quick laps on Cornice. EpicMix showed me loading the 1300+ vertical chair every 7 or 8 minutes. I first did Zachary’s before finding run of the day, Lookout Janek, which I did three times. Visibility was difficult as unloading was directly into the sun, then steep NE facing run was very shady. But it had been recently groomed and there was loose snow on it so it skied well. It was a little thin with rocks barely showing where it rolled over in the middle, but the left side below there was excellent. I finished with Sentinel then a lap on chair 7. My watched counted18,690 and EpicMix did not miss any lifts and was very close. Note: PST is an hour behind Mountain Time
