Hey how are you? Long time reader, first time poster. Looking for some advice in late January Alta/Snowbird lodging; what you might suggest. Been to Utah before( 3 times). Stayed in PC. Any comments on Peruvian? Looking late January because of pricing difference. Any comments greatly appreciated. [-o<

Are you planning on having a car? If so, why stay up at the resort. Jan is "high season" and the most expensive (aside from holiday weeks). Stay down in Sandy, and then you have the option to ski BCC or LCC, or (for only about 30 minutes more of driving north on I-15 in the HOV lane) making a run over to the very beautiful Snowbasin up above Ogden. Unless you absolutely need "first tracks" and "trail side" lodging, you can stay in town, where you have many restaurant choices at much lower prices. Take a look at a typical deal like this:

Click on their "Specials" which include skier packages (for two) and either a car or SUV

They have worked well for me in the past.

A couple years ago my buddy stayed there during a snow deluge in mid-Dec. He was extremely happy with his room, the food, and the comradery amoungst the guests. Access to the slopes comes for "free". I have heard that the Peruvian is often booked up far in advance. Even so, I'd give them a call.

If you cannot make a reservation at the Peruvian or at any other location in the canyon, consider staying on 7200S between 100W-300W. The location has quick access to both canyon express buses and the many local restaurants. I believe a similar area exists around 9200S too, but I haven't stayed that area recently.

Cheers,
Jeff

You've already gotten some good advice. Friends who have stayed at the Peruvian love the place, but I never have. For down valley lodging, I'd also highly recommend the Ft. Union area.

We always stay at Crystal Inn downtown SLC, and never have traffic problems to ANY resort. And, excellent breakfast, pool, rooms, and convenient location for dining and sightseeing.

There's a Crystal Inn in Midvale, too, much closer to the Cottonwood Canyons. Stayed there myself and had a similar experience.

We were very happy with the Homewood Suites in Sandy last winter. Price includes a nice breakfast and even Mon- Thurs. a light dinner (nice salad and a main course like pasta or chicken --even includes a bad but drinkable wine). Also has a nicely heated indoor pool and hot tub. It's on the road into Big Cottonwood Canyon, and a block from the ski bus. Lots of restaurants and small shopping centers in the neighborhood-- a few even within walking distance -- and if you have a car, you have a choice of 2 ski shops on the road to the Cottonwood canyons where you can stop for your discount lift tix.
