opened up at k mart 3 weeks ago but all the reports on here were accurate do i didn't bother.. buddy gil and i began, hopefully, the weekly trek north on friday at loon <BR>loon: 1 trail , uploaded on gondy and accessed trail via the double... friday was overcast with a few sprinkles by 2p... soft corn snow w/ decent coverage... couple of relatively steeper sections took a beating by the novice boarders side slipping down, but no real bare spots on the run to speak of... was informed by them that they were shuting it down indefinitely ( at least till friday of this coming week...looks like an economic decision casue the cover was enough to ski on.. but that's ok cause i for one would prefer them to not open anyways till the 3rd week of dec and STAY OPEN DURING THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR TO SKI IN APRIL AND MAY,,, but that's a lost cause battle... so buddy gil and i hit the hot line phone and found that bretton was turning the flywheel on sat..with john smart's epic bump camp still fresh in our minds from this past summer we hit it early sat and burned short mogul turns in the soft corn all day.. partly sunny and about 50f.. it was a great day..$15 lift ticket got one lift and 1 continuous run under that lift ( the quad ) a nice little run of almost a mile down.. empty by 2 p so that was good to... no bumps on this trail but sections of little bimps...novices probably would not fare to well ,but if u are half legit, the snow was really good to work on... got to give it up to bretton.. normally my buddy and i would not even consider going there ever since a ski patroler told us 2 years ago that there was not a single bump run on that mountain.. " that's not what our customers want " said he.. we usually get the shakes just driving past the place on 302 on the way to wildcat!!!!! but they sucked it up and turned the lift while most of the other's, including the mighty k mart, shut it down for payroll reasons ( the real reason!!!) loon could have stayed open if they did what bretton was doing.. actually had paid workers out tossing around snow with shovels while we were skiing.. advertised as some walking required but none was.. definitely very sparse in a few areas but decent strip of snow of about 45 feet wide most of the way down. so bretton gets the early season good guy nod for sat.. i think they opened today to but not sure if they will stay open on mon. back next week on thurs and fri for what looks like either jay or sunday river at this point...
