i don't know whether to be mad at loon and booth creek or just myself for not expecting and anticipating what unfolded...i'll make it brief as pos so as not to bore but it's painful to read these reports of epic powder and not have been able to partake!!!!! simply put, arrived in lincoln on wed night to reports on t.v of impending dump-a roo... little man on tv said and showed a map declaring certain areas of different colors would get certain amounts ranging from 9 to 20+... licoln appeared to be in the 18 range possible coastal rain for locales on the seaboard... awoke at 6:15 promtly to a mixed bag in lincoln with about 6 on the ground and some moderate to high winds of 15 to 35... loon mtn decides not to open and declares this information to me as i attempt to enter the base lodge... NO EFFORT AT ALL TO PUT THIS INFO OUT ON A SNOW PHONE LINE... big mountains like loon pay the weather service for updates and monitoring so i do not buy their lame ass excuses of " we cannot control the weather "... any reasonable person understands the volatile nature of mother nature... but booth creek and loon made a purely economical B.S decision on thursday that left season pass holders holding a big bag of s**t!!!!!!! they easily could have opened and run the lower mountain lifts but they didn't and screwed the people who had no information given out to them at all and no realistic time to travel in the ongoing nor easter... LOON HAS THEIR OWN DAILY FRIGGIN TV SHOW AND THEIR OWN FRIGGIN RADIO STATION FREQUENCY YET THEY COULD NOT /DID NOT MANAGE TO GET THIS INFO OUT!!! at this point it's about 9am and the road reports indicate driving would be a foolhardy undertaking at best... one day blown up <BR>and it get's better, boy's, ... friday awoke again early and noticed the snow stick outside my window appeared to be about plus 7 from the night before...the problem was it seemed awfully wet outside, not raining but dripping... the short story is that after it snowed about 7 or so (loon lied and were calling it 11 at the hill!!!!) apparently it rained for 3 hours and got cold... a lovely 2 inch crust had formed...now i know that i'm not even close to being a full on legit skier and probably never will be, but i think that scot schmidt himself would have had trouble at loon on friday...a big part of the problem was they apparently groomed early thurs night before the snow and didn't feel the need ( and in this rare case it was needed ) to do something with that 2 inch of glaze...and to boot, at around 1:00pm it started dumping and was a white out for the rest of the day... they make no attempt to let the people know the previous day and the next , make minimal efforts to improve the skiing... i'll tell you this much, if it was a saturday things would have been a lot different, and that really bites the big one, booth creek... i also see that booth creek is proudly proclaiming that they will be closing on april 15th... the deepest snowpack in 3 years and they can't wait to shut it down because the foolish general public is more concerned about hitting the titelist than skiing in 50 degree sunny days and they cannot count on a certain daily figure of daily tickets being sold... can't the sold out weekends in feb and march justify a little reward for the season ticket holders!!! i guess not ... outstanding way to take care of the season pass holders, huh!!!! now i love to ski and a bad day skiing is 10x's better than a good day at work, but let me tell you , the last 2 days have sucked beyond belief... one of these years i'm gonna follow through and quit the rat race and move to jay or stowe and stop dealing w/ this minor league nonsense... i almost did it today!!!!!hope you all caught some turns elsewhere!!sorry for the vent!!!!!!
