Today we headed up to Lost Trail to let Ty get some more time on the snow. Lost Trail has already been closed for three weeks, but the Saddle Mountain SNOTEL at 7,900’ is still reporting as snow depth of 51 inches. We were absolutely the only ones there for the entire hour or so that we skied, which was a little surprising since it was a beautiful sunny day (66 F in the valley, 55 F on the hill). We spent our time on the bunny hill and Ty seemed to have a bit more fun that the previous time since he got a fresh start. The surface was soft corn snow, with a few mushy places that hadn’t seen much traffic. The south-facing slopes on Saddle Mountain were melted out in many places, but the slopes above the main base area looked to be in good shape. We brought gear for a skin up to the summit, but time ran short so we had to skip it. There hasn’t really been any appreciable snowfall over the past couple of weeks or so, but hopefully the snow will hold up because we’d like to get Ty out for some more sessions this spring.

J.Spin
