Day One: winter
Today was the Christy Sports demo day at Loveland which is really quite a good deal. $45 for a ticket, lunch voucher, beer coupon, raffle ticket and of course as many demos as you can handle. I made it through 9 brands and 12 pairs of skis, with 3 brands left out. Part of the nature of the beast is hit of miss if the ski you want to try and in the correct length is available when you are around - or not. I still need to figure out just which of a couple different skis that I liked I will end up with. Others were clearly not up to my style of skiing. It's a revolution as none of my new gear will be race gear for the first time since... ever! Looking at mostly ~98mm underfoot 'all mountain' rides. Heck I've even gone loopy and bought BC/sidecountry gear this year.
Loveland had a whopping 2" of snow overnight and it started snowing again during the day though only lightly. Still it helped given the recent ~10 day dry spell. 3-6" more is expected tonight last I knew. (I suppose Wolf Creek is the place to be right now. Over 50% open and 10" of new overnight). For mid-November Loveland was packed. Employee training day (including instructors), Multiple race teams (including Eldora), and Demo day, plus the regular early season crowd.
Loveland has 3 lifts and a couple hundred acres open right now which is actually not too shabby for this time of year. Due to the wind and best open terrain, I stuck to Chair one since Chair 2 was frigid snow pellets and wind straight to the face. And for me Chair 6 is just too short to be of much use.
Anyway I somehow skied from ~9:15am till ~3:15pm despite my legs being far from in shape. Ibuprofen is a miracle worker so far tonight. Too tired to add much else, but all in all a good day for the start of my season.
NOTE: I have a copy of all my text for when this post gets wiped out shortly from the server move! I'll upload pics only on the new server as well.
