Well, hey, we were there on that icy/crusty Monday as well.

There were basically three types of snow: nice groomed stuff on the blue and greens. Gnarly ice on slopes that had been packed down by skiers on Sunday. And finally, and the absolute worst, horrible crust on places which were not tracked out on Sunday.

The gnarly ice category: Chute, Catamount Bowl, Lynx, Upper Glade, Beaver. It was somewhat possible to ski these runs and experience some enjoyment, but if I lived in Vermont I'm sure I would have just gone home (live in Michigan).

Grand Canyon was a combination of gnarly ice and crust. But it was actually one of the nicer runs. We (myself and 2 teenage sons) skied this 5 or 6 times.

But in the end, we found Fall Line. By the end of the afternoon this run was actually skiable. The last run of the day was awesome, the best run of the season. The sun emerged, the snow was very skiable, and, damn, this is just one kickass trail!

BTW, Mark, I saw an MRG patroller on telemark skis on Fall Line. This guy was fabulous, he was getting air all over the place, even did a helicopter. I did not think one could do helicopters on tele skis. Whoever this guy is, please tell him that "he's da man".

Mike
