I drew Antelope for trail check which meant a coast-to-coast 2000+ vertical foot run. Coverage was outstanding. The rest of the day was a sea of great packed powder. Cat Bowl and Canyon were skiing better than they normally do in mid-Winter. Sweep was down Paradise.
On Saturday, the Double was opened in
addition to the Single. Some windpacked was to
be had. Waterfall - a short shot with
snowmaking on it - was opened even though no
snow had been made on it and the conditions were
the best I had ever seen. Funny how that worked
out. Again, great coverage was to be had!
Almost everything accesible by lift was open. But, it woulda' been nice to have had a fresh
coating of snow.
Sunday, I was a bit sluggish in the
morning. Snow squalls moved in and when I had
run into Rich Ramsden and Denis and I had come
alive as we had a long sweet run down Antelope.
After performing a stint at the top of The
Double, I ran into JayA The Treeskier. I
was a bit stiff, but he convinced me to sample
our volunteer efforts. Into Door #2 we went
followed by sampling P-B. I was tentative and
cautious, but found good skiing until we
encountered some schwack below 2500 feet. Next
I ran into Rich and allowed us to be seduced by
a cool line I showed to Bernstein the other
day. Sweet snow and adequate coverage on what
Rich called a perfect New England glade.
Time was running out on the day, but I
was able to cram in one more run down Quacky and
Porcupine. Snow squalls during the day had
greatly improved conditions and much chowder was
to be had! Sweep was great down Panther and
Robin - the green paradise of Birdland was
particularly sweet.
