On Saturday morning, it was MINUS 22 fahrenheit, AGAIN !! We got word that Lake Champlain had fully frozen over by Friday. There was happiness in the air from being in the midst of a real live Vermont Winter!
It felt even colder than the prior day. Perhaps the prior day wore me down from the cold. But, I was still happy.
I met up with an intermediate friend later on. It was her first trip to Mad River Glen. I slowly pushed her onto some more challenging stuff as the day wore on which she was happy about. One expert run that pleased her was through Ferret, make a few tricky turns and traverses on Upper Glade and over to the steep and fun headwall on Liftline below Tower 10.
Surfaces became harder as the day wore on. Crowds were not an issue.
The last 2 hours of the day wore me out. I closed Birdland when the temps started to fall rapidly. When we left the top of The Double at roughly 4:20 (no, not that 4:20), the thermo-meter reported a minus 18F. Finding some scraps of untracked in the Powder Bowl on my sweep made me forget about the deep cold. I was especially diligent on sweep - the thought of an overlooked injured person wrapped around a tree spending the night outside .... umm .... let's not go there.
That evening, my truck rebelled just like it had the prior one. I also had a feeling on my nose much like sunburn. A little frostnip, I suspect.
