Mad River Saturday

I was on a tight schedule: i had to be at the Alpine shop in Burlington at noon to meet my parents (we were buying my wife a helmet for her birthday).

I boarded the single chair at 8:30 AM.

I had first corduroy down Antelope/Broadway/Porcupine: it was sweet, and ungodly fast -- especially since I knew nobody was in front of me.

I repeated and had first and second corduroy down
Antelope/Broadway/Bunny: it was sweet, too.

So was Duck and anything else that was groomed.

I stuck to the groomed, since anything else was rock hard frozen so early in the day. Skied a fast one with Ben and Roger, ending up in a just softening Periwinkle bowl, and then I was gone.

Mad River Sunday

We were on a tight schedule: we had to be at my sister's house in Burlington to meet my parents (we were having Easter dinner with Bumper Grrl Alice and RacerDude RobLuce and Lewba).

We boarded the single chair at 7:30 AM for Easter (almost) Sunrise service. It was a beautiful sunny easter morning, with a grand view of the Adirondacks. About 150 people were on the summit. The group singing was everything you would expect from a group of Mad River ski bums.

Vickie and I had first corduroy down Antelope/Broadway: it was sweet, and ungodly fast. Then we hit Duck, which was so good Saturday. But today, nothing over here had been groomed, so it was hard icy and miserable.

So we went in for a giant breakfast in the Basebox. Yummy. Vickie had Eggs Benadict special, I had pancakes and sassage and home fries.

Our buddy Chuck arrived at 9:30. He hasn't skied here in six years. We successfully reintroduced him. He especially liked Lynx/Beaver.

By now, things were getting quite soft and manageable, at least below the mid station. Canyon was great. Even Catamount Bowl got soft. But it didn't like Chute et. al. was going to ever loosen up.

We were gone by 1:00 PM, but the rest of the joint was rocking on in soft snow, bright skies, and a mounatain of BBQ chicken.

Mad River Monday

I was on a tight schedule: I worked at home in the morning, and didn't arrive at the mountain until around 2.

Just about everything was soft and pliable, with the possible exception of chute, fall line, and paradise. Skiers cavorting down Chute were few and far between, so I didn't bother.

I did a few cruisers and a couple of runs down Glade. Four runs total, all in brilliant sunlight and deep blue skies.

there were maybe a hundred cars in the lot. The place was rocking to the sounds of the Dead, Phish, and Santana.

I love to ski. I'll be back out tomorrow looking for freshies.
